ADDED LATER: I think the father's name is John McKay and the mother is Christine or Catherine. Might be a good idea to request a printed copy from SP. though....

Thanks Tusker and Joette your help is appreciated. I will email SP and see what they can do about the unreadable Cert although i feel a bit guilty moaning at them as i have had a great and i do mean Great weekend on SP for finding information................... some of which has had me laughing my socks off - for instance

In my search for Alexander McKay i found one in glasgow aged 18 must have been living in a tenement, the household above him consisted of a 10m old child well my mind wandered as to how the census taker got the kids information - maybe some pinned a note to him.........

The next one was when I was looking for a Ann well i found her marriage lines and you know when you look at something quickly well i thought her mother was called Crazy Ann well i was laughing so hard i was crying (2 nutters in the family i hoped) then i realised her name was Mary!!

Many Many thanks again to you both - now off to do a Porter search

Hi Wee Ina

Absolutely no reason for you to feel guilty about complaining about the quality of certain images !!

You have paid to access these images, and, if they are difficult or impossible to interpret on ScotlandsPeople, then you are perfectly entitled to post a contact form on the ScotlandsPeople site, and expect to receive in the post a much better quality photocopy of the entry or entries, along with a refund of the credits involved.

Hi Wee Ina:

I think Elizabeth's m.s. is Porter, or Posten; and I think you are rightfully due a legible copy of #375.

Thanks everyone I have emailed SP and they got back to me very quickly saying "Thank you for your e-mail and many apologies for this legibility
problem. I will inform the relevant people and hopefully they will be
able to improve the image on-line in due course. In the meantime I will
send you an unofficial paper copy of the entry taken directly from the
register, which should be larger and clearer to read. I hope this is of
some help."

So hopefully I will have a clearer cert in due course.

I have tried looking for a Elizabeth Porter married to a William Leslie but not turned up anything yet so i will pop off now and see if i can frind anything on Posten (thanks Frances)

Again many thanks for ALL your help

Haw Big Yin! --Have you tried wildcards? Like William Lesl* (in case it's been spelled Lesley) married to Elizabeth Por* and Pos* and Pu*?

Hi Tusker

Thanks so much for all your help - I wouldnt have got he name William without your help at least Samuel has a father and half a mum lol

Take Care
