Hi Agnes,
I wouldn't count the family as not being the right lot on the basis of the spelling of the surname. One thing that I learned early on in my family history research was to be imaginative with the spelling of names (and also look out for ages being stretched a bit).
In this case, the surname is very close, as are the first names. The proof would probably be to look on ScotlandsPeople for the birth certificate of the child John. On that birth certificate, see if the marriage matches up to the 1879 marriage that you have quoted.
To me, the clues here are (1) surname very close, (2) first names very close, (3) young couple and (4) young child of an age to be born within a year of their marriage. With that amount of clues, the chances af this family being the one that you are looking for outweigh the chances of it not being them - although I accept it does not prove it to be them.
All the best,
Andrew Paterson

And this one is a near perfect example of simple variants !!
The John of the census entry was born 29th Jan 1880 and registered as John McCREDDEN (sic), parents John McCREDDEN and Rose Ann McCREDDEN MS McGOVERN (sic), and the parents married 21st November 1879 !!
This does indeed appear to be the correct family

Hello Agnes
Just a thought. Blackstoun Row although in the parish of Kilbarchan then was probably on the Paisley side of what is now Linwood as it was the focus for the ironstone mining in the area. On the 1841 census it was almost 90% Irish workers there.
Kilbarchan village was almost exclusively weaving.

Hi Agnes,
I am from Linwood and there are a few McGiverns still living there. One of my friends was a McGivern until she married. Funnily enough, her name is Agnes and her dad's name was Patrick. I know that her father was from Linwood and that she has Aunt's and Uncles still living there.
Christine.

Hi Agnes,
Welcome back! I assume your information is from the 1851 census?
15 Elderslie, Paisley Abbey, Renfrewshire
Owen McCrudden, 50, Head, born Ireland, Mason
Bridget McCrudden, 40, Wife, born Ireland
Patrick McCrudden, 16, Son, born Ireland, Worker in Cotton Factory
John McCrudden, 14, Son, born Ireland, Piecer in cotton factory
Elizabeth McCrudden, 8, Daughter, born Ireland, Scholar
Ann Lindsay, 30, Niece, born Ireland, Employed in cotton mill
Could this be Patrick?
1861
17 Garscube Lane, Milton, Glasgow Barony
...
Patrick McCrudden, 26, Lodger, born Donegal, Ireland, Carter
A Bridget Mccreddin died in Elderslie, Renfrew in 1870 age 55-- have you checked her out? Or is that how you got her maiden name? If so, was she a widow at her death?
All the best,
Sarah
