Hi Karen,

Do you have a marriage cert. for son William? This would (should) tell you if his parents are alive and help you narrow down a death date. With William jnr. having a birth date of c.1837 I'm assuming he would have married during the time of statutory registration.

Regards,

Alison

Hi Karen

Although SIM, ALLAN and JANET look as though they should be easy to find - far from it :!:

Sim could be masquerading as Sym/Sime/Syme/Simm so use wild cards for S*m*.
Janet could be Janet/Jannet/Jane/Jean/Jeannie/ Jeanny/Jessie so wildcards are of less use. You would need to try J*n* then look again with Jes*
Allan might be Alan/Allan/Allen so try Al*n.

Hope this helps ?

Hi Karen, and Russell

Here's a marriage from the IGI :

JANET ALLAN
Female Family
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Marriages:
Spouse: ALEXANDER WILSON Family
Marriage: 16 MAR 1839 Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Messages:
Extracted marriage record for locality listed in the record. The source records are usually arranged chronologically by the marriage date.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Source Information:
Batch No.: Dates: Source Call No.: Type: Printout Call No.: Type:

M100121 1820 - 1854 0102194 Film

Noo then on the 1841 census ( per ancestry Transcription - actual image shoulf be available on ScotlandsPeople ) there is this household.

Catharine Campbell abt 1821 Fife, Scotland Dunfermline Fife 424
Elisabeth Campbell abt 1828 Fife, Scotland Dunfermline Fife 424
Jean Campbell abt 1826 Fife, Scotland Dunfermline Fife 424
John Campbell abt 1826 Fife, Scotland Dunfermline Fife 424
Sarah Campbell abt 1830 Fife, Scotland Dunfermline Fife 424
William Syme abt 1834 Fife, Scotland Dunfermline Fife 424
Alexander Wilson abt 1806 Fife, Scotland Dunfermline Fife 424
David Wilson abt 1832 Fife, Scotland Dunfermline Fife 424
Graham Wilson abt 1839 Fife, Scotland Dunfermline Fife 424
James Wilson abt 1831 Fife, Scotland Dunfermline Fife 424
Janet Wilson abt 1811 Fife, Scotland Dunfermline Fife 424

Address Milesmark, Dunfermline, Alexander's occupation given as Coal Miner

I Can't spot young Graham's birth on the IGI.
No suitable David and James found born to Alexander and Janet Wilson, instead there are suitable children born to Alexander Wilson and Margaret Calderwood.
ie I think this could be your Janet Allan now Wilson, with a slightly older than previously thought William Syme from a previous relationship

I have just started looking at possible parents for the Campbells on th IGI - there's a lots of submitted entries for them - wait for it parents Andrew Campbell and ....
JANET ALLAN !!!!

I am not going to post all those records here - this post is long enough.

I think the thing to do is find William in 1851 - hopefully with his family. Where was he in 1861 ?

Also perhaps worth looking for deasths of Janet ALLAN/CAMPBELL/WILSON....... ?

Good luck with this !
