I don't think I have any connections to these people, but I'd just like to Welcome you to Talking Scot!

Sidney seems to a rather common female Christian name around those parts

As one of the parties were from County Fermanagh you may be interested in the Fermanagh Friends web site:
http://www.fermanagh.org.uk/

It's a while since I visited it but it appears to be expanding all the time.

Wilma and Jean,
Thank you for your replies.
Interesting to hear Sidney was a common female first name in some areas of Scotland; the same was true in Co Fermanagh,Ire.
Have tried many Fermanagh and Ire sites for info re McGreece/McGrice/Magrice ancestors with v little success.
Only found this site recently so trying to further research on a different angle. Sidney's parents, William and Jane McGreece were married in Portanode, Fermanagh 1826.
Am puzzled with only 3 of Sidney's children shown in 1881 census. William died as an infant and am unable to find any trace of Ann Jane, Hugh Alex or Patrick eg death, immigration or marriage.
Hugh was present at Sidney's death 1914 but does not appear in census, Scot or Eng, marriage or death records that I can find??

Any ideas anyone??

Hi Mcgrice,
Re the GALLACHER children missing from the 1881 census.
Perhaps try and find Patrick, Sidney and family in the 1861 & 1871 censuses.
These should give you an idea which children are still living in those years.
If any are missing you could look for their DCs between the last known census to be alive and the next census.
Also check the 1891 & 1901 censuses to see who is still with Sidney.
There's the possibility that Hugh Alexander (b1860), like William, has died young.
I only mention this because of the other Hugh born 1866,
but it's not unknown to have same-named children in the one family (though this doesn't occur too often).
