Wondering if anyone would have a copy or knows of a website that would have a photo of Pretoria Cottages circa1918 - this is where my grand mother was born. It would be nice to see a picture.
Regards
Donna

Hello Catroina - is the site you're talking about the www.geo.ed.ac.uk site?
Or do you know of another?
Regards

Donna
Sorry! I was getting mixed up between the information I had found of the existance of the cottages in East Whitburn and the site with photos which I found at the same time of Whitburn a mile or so along the road.
What I did find was a business with its premises at N°2 Pretoria Cottages.
Forsyth Plumbing & Heating Services
Mr and Mrs B Forsyth
2 Pretoria Cottages
East Whitburn
West Lothian EH47 0JF
Telephone: 01501 744676
It might be worth sending them a wee note with a request for a photo, explaining why you want one.
Hope this helps

Hi Donna
I only live a couple of miles from East Whitburn. On my road home from work tonight, I had a look for you, and missed the road down to 2 Pretoria Cottage. There are 2 roads leading in to new houses on either side of a footpath leading down to 2 new houses. I presumed the 2 houses were on to the back of one of the roads. It looks like the row of the original Pretoria Cottages has been demolished and someone has named the cottage because of what had been on the site.
I dropped in to the library as thay have lots of old photos of the area - but no luck. The nearest I got was Whitburn Railway Station (now also demolished) which must have been right next to the cottages, you can still make out the railway track.
If there is anything more I can do for you please let me know.

Hi again,Donna
I meant to add this in my last post. It looks round about the right era for you. The cottages you see are very near where I was today, typical of what Pretoria Cottages would have looked like. For all I know they ARE Pretoria Cottages. West Lothian Family History Society invite enquiries. You could perhaps e-mail them.

Thank you Mary
Will look into it - I have a picture somewhere - I'll dig it out and post it - I'm not sure if it is actually Pretoria Cottages - maybe once I post it someone may be able to verify it for me.
Many thanks
Donna
