Edmonton, Alberta, Canada .....

Post by CatrionaL » Mon Apr 03, 2006 1:11 pm

This morning, the postman brought a thick envelope to the house. I was amazed by and delighted with the information it contained.

But let me begin at the beginning. Ever since I started on research for one particular side of the family, I've been looking for my grandfather's brother. He emigrated to Canada, but so did numerous other Macleods. After much fruitless search, I contacted the Edmonton branch of the Alberta Family History Society, since rumour said he had lived there once. All I had was his name, date and place of birth and a bit of family folklore.A lady, a vulunteer, replied that without more information such as a wife's name, it was unlikely that they could help. I was disappointed!

Two days later, an excited e-mail arrived from the lady in Edmonton. "I've found him! Your Family folklore was pretty accurate." Not content with that, she continued her search and found amongst other things, not only my great uncle's obituary, but those of his wives and children, a mini-biography, his will and probate, his application for land and more.

Thank you, Claudine, for your willing help!

If anyone has relatives who emigrated to Alberta, I can strongly recommend the Edmonton FHS
