Kenneth Miller of Caithness, widower and moved to Cheshire, remarried.
Am trying to trace where he lived before becoming a widower. He had children from the first marriage all born in Caithness.
Any pointers will be gratefully received

hi Jean,
My apologies...I gave the wrong name previously.
The info.is with regard to John Miller who was a Stone Mason/Builder and his first wife's name was believed to be Elizabeth...both from Caithness.
They had a son who was named Kenneth Miller..apparently he was my GGrandfather...and several other children....Kenneth was aged about 5 yrs. when Elizabeth died.He then moved to Lancashire and on to Cheshire and remarried in Cheshire.
I can find no marriage record for John and Elizabeth, nor can I find a
Death record for Elizabeth.
Can you advise me how to search the Scottish BMD's?Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thankyou for your time,
Gillian

There is a Kenneth Miller on Scotlands People, (see link at the top of our Forum Index) born in Caithness in 1859. Wonder if he is yours? To view the birth on SP you will need to purchase 30 credits (£6). Access to the one certificate will cost you 6 credits.
The IGI on www.FamilySearch.com gives a Kenneth Miller, parents John Miller and Elizabeth Lyall, b in Wick, Caithness 14 October 1859. Probably the same one.
A search, again on Scotlands People, shows the death of an Elizabeth Lyall/Miller between 1885 and 1890 in Caithness. The SP site gives the option of searching under both maiden and married names. Where did you find the information concerning the death of Elizabeth when Kenneth was only 5 years old?
I suggest you have a look for the family in the 1861 Census, also on Scotlands People.
Best wishes

Hullo again
The IGI www.familysearch.com gives a marriage for the John Miller and Elizabeth Lyall mentioned above as 25 January 1856 in Wick.
This couple also had a daughter Catherine b. 8 april 1856 in Wick.
If I keep coming back to this couple, it's because it's the only John Miller/Elizabeth combination I can find in Caithness who had a son Kenneth.
Hope this helps.
