Toman family, County Downe .....

Post by jocair » Sat Apr 08, 2006 7:08 pm

Hi
i am searching for any information on a Philip Toman born about 1837 in Ireland. He married Mary Ann McEwan in January 1854 in Garvaghy county Downe, I got this information from their daughter Agnes's birth certificate, who was born 11th September 1874 in Stranraer. Agnes's birth certificate also stated that her father Philip, a dealer, was deceased at this time. I have unsuccessfully searched for his death certificate and am wondering if he died in Ireland. Is anyone else searching this family as Philip Toman is my brick wall!! Philip and Mary Ann had a daughter Sarah born 1856 in Ireland and then moved to Stranraer in Scotland where they then had another 6 children. Any information, ideas, clues gratefully accepted!
thanks
Joan

Hullo Joan

My knowledge of Irish Research is more than limited.

I did however want to give you a warm welcome to Talking Scot. Hope we can be of some help to you.

Best wishes

What's available will depend on their religion. Church of Ireland marriages are recorded from 1847 but Catholic ones (apart from some in Parish Records) didn't get reported until 1864.

Garvaghy Catholic parish includes part Dromore, part Annaclone. Dromore has extant Catholic records from 1821, Annaclone has no existing records available.

Garvaghy C of I parish records were lost but PRONI official records are available from 1847.

Transcripts can be viewed online at http://www.ancestryireland.co.uk/

It'll cost a bit though.
Searching for Keogh, Kelly, Fitzgerald, Riddell, Stewart, Wilson, McQuilkin, Lynch, Boyle, Cairney, Ross, King, McIlravey, McCurdy, Drennan and Woods (to name but a few).

Also looking for any information on Rathlin Island, County Antrim, Ireland.
