Hi mocam

The only way to find if he emigrated is to find him in another country! :D Silly answer I know but there is no sure fire way other than examining immigration indexes or census returns. Were there other family members who emigrated? Sometimes they liked to stick together and you can find several living together or nearby in a new country from those census records. If you've eliminated all the Scottish vital records this is all I can think of. Did you check to see if he was an informant on any family DC records?? Have you tracked down all his siblings? It might just be one of those unsolved mysteries........... :(

Best wishes
Jean

There are only 3 John M*cNiv*n deaths in Lanark with a birth year of 1859 +/- 1. Have you looked at all 3?
