missing marriage.....

Post by penmoris » Mon Mar 07, 2005 8:50 pm

Hello everyone,
Just joined today & we hope we are doing this right!
We know that Adam Dunsmore, born 1830/2 in Airth, Stirling, married Margaret Ballantyne Bruce, born 02/05/1829 Edinburgh, but we cannot find this marriage in the OPR. Their first child Adam was born 06/12/1853 in Galashiels. Can anyone help?
Regards,
Graham

Hello Penmorris,I couldn't find their marriage either,so I went looking for Margaret's death and on it is:
Margaret Ballantyne Dunsmore (married to Adam Dunsmore, foreman in wool factory)
died 25 June 1887 in District of Galashiels,Selkirk ,58 years
parents John Bruce blacksmith master (dec) and Euphemia Boyd Bruce M.S. Ballantyne (dec)
Her husband Adam signed the cert.

I also found another child:
Euphemia Dunsmore 8 Aug 1857 Galashiels,Selkirk

I think if your lucky enough to have a child born 1855 you may get your answer that way.

Hope this is some help,
HeatherK

Hello,

I also tried a few things on the IGI but no luck.

Have you tried looking at the birth entries on SP of their other children?

The entries of Catherine, John or Francis should state the date and place of the marriage.

Annette M

Hello HeatherK, nelmit & Andy,
Thank you all for your speedy responses & helpful advice. We were aware of most of the information but did not realise that the parents' marriage details would be on the children's birth certificates. We will look into this on SP straightaway.
Thanks again,
Graham

Hi Graham,

Hope I've caught you in time.

The details will not be on Euphemia nor Mary Ann's.

Only 1855 and after 1861 show the marriage details.

Hello nelmit,
Oh dear, we were too quick off the mark! Never mind, we will try with the ones born after 1861, probably Francis or James. Thanks for the message, anyway,
Best wishes,
Graham
