Elusive McIntyre's.....

Post by patjohn » Sun Apr 23, 2006 8:15 pm

I have a marriage record of John McIntyre(25) and Mary McIntyre (22) in Inverary on 9/12/1862 where John McIntyre's parents are given as Hugh McIntyre ( Handloom Weaver)and Euphemia McIntyre MS McInnes. I have Mary's subsequent death certificate and John's remarriage to Janet Dunlop in 1878 where John's parents are given as Hugh McIntyre
( handloom Weaver) and Sarah McIntyre nee Cameron. I am almost certain this is the same John McIntyre, but don't understand how he can give two different names for his mother. I can find no trace of a marriage between Hugh McIntyre and Sarah Cameron nor Hugh McIntyre and Euphemia McInnes. Does anyone have any suggections?

Any idea how I can find out the ages of Hugh and Effy at the time of their marriage, short of ordering the certificate or going to Edinburgh

Hi Patjohn,

because your couple were married in 1827 this means it is an OPR, generally this means you wont get an age or parents names from the record. ](*,)

sorry to be the bearer of bad news

Your best chance is if you can find Effy's death. Using the female two-surname cross-check you will find a small number of Euphemia M*intyre / M*cinnes. Hopefully one will be your Effy. If not, you may need to consider Effy M*intyre / M*cinnes, or some of the other variations of the first name. Hopefully you will find a death certificate with an age and parents for her.

All the best,

Hi Patjohn,
To add to Karen's happy news
(and Andrew's suggestion!)
If you can find Hugh & Effy on any censuses you'll get a rough idea of when they were born.
