Greenock search Wyles/Mcnab brainteaser.....
Elizabeth Wyles married George Thomson 11/11/1840 in Liverpool. The marriage certificate states her father was James Wyles, mariner & his father was John Thomson, woollen draper, & both Elizabeth & George were born in Scotland. From census information, we gather Elizabeth was born between 1823 & 1827. We have tried to find her birth on SP but without success. There is a James Wylie on SP marrying a Barbara Mcnab on 08/07/1815 but there is no birth for an Elizabeth Wylie. In 1851 Liverpool census there is a Barbary Mack, widow 50 b. Greenock, living with Elizabeth & her husband George & their son James Wyles Thomson. In 1861 census Barbary becomes Barbara McNamara. We have since found on SP a marriage for Barbara McNabb to Hugh McNamara 16/01/1827 Greenock Middle. How can we prove that James Wylie is the father of Elizabeth Wyles? There is a James Wylys bpt. 17/08/1818 West/Old Parish Greenock to James Wylys & Barbara McNab (I.G.I.) Any comments welcome or are you as confused as we are?!

Good morning penmorris
I know that you asked your question a long, long time ago! You may well have moved on in your research. I came across it this morning while browsing.
Have you tried looking for Elizabeth's death on Scotland's People?
I looked for the death of Elizabeth THOMSON other name WYLES between 1855 and 1927 and only found one hit. Might be worth a look.
Hope this helps a little
Best wishes

Hello Catriona,
Thanks for your response on Feb. 16. We have not been able to move on any more since posing the questions! We believe Elizabeth Thomson died in Liverpool between 1861 & 1871. We have searched the G.R.O. records & had various certificates back but not the right one yet. We will check the one you mentioned on Scotland's People just in case. Thanks anyway,
Best wishes,
Graham
