Hi Mallog,

St Cuthberts was the parish that covered all parts of Edinburgh outside of the "Old Town" which was made up of Edinburgh and Canongate parishes.

Outwardly it reached out to the village parishes which are now all part of the City of Edinburgh. The surrounding parishes clockwise from north were North Leith, South Leith, Edinburgh, Canongate, Duddingston, Liberton, Colinton, Corstorphine and Cramond.

All the best,

AndrewP

Thanks that was helpful. I did Google but clearly didn't put in the right key words. I have people I am determined to trace back. Two of the family were down in the 1871 Census as born in St Cuthbert's and I wondered if that could be near South Leith. I can see now that it could be.

I have to say that my "Favourites" is starting to get out of hand since I joined this Forum but for the best possible reasons
