Hi:)
I'm only finding out about this now, shame on me. Is there a list of the protagonists of the event and the area of Glasgow it covered?

The 1915 rent Strike and the actions which the tenants took in support of the strike were started in Govan organised principally by Mary Barbour a local woman, although the strike quickly spread throughout the city.
Mary Barbour later went on to become a city councillor representing the fairfield area of Govan http://sites.scran.ac.uk/redclyde/redclyde/rc092.htm

Yes & it quickly spread to other parts of the country(UK).
I think this was an early example of the so called "girl power".
I am supposing that landlords thought with their men away at War or working-anywhere & at any wage & as many hours deemed neccesary for the War Effort they wouldn't have had the energy or the organisation needed to carry out this concerted effort.
I know that in Clydebank the Women & children & any men would rush around if there was any hint of an eviction & would block the Bailiffs way.Pots, pans would be banged(like a bottling!!)& water not neccesarilly the drinking variety would be thrown.(I think chanties come to mind)
One of the so called origins of the Red Clydesider.

There is a play currently going round the Scottish circuit called Elizabeth Gordon Quinn which in part is about the rent strike.
