Hello
I'm looking for a Mary Haughey/nee Begley married Joseph Haughey around 1830?? From what I can gather they were both born in Ireland..From what I can gather they both traveled between Co Tyrone/Donegal and back to Glasgow Scotland.. Having trouble finding them.. I think Mary died somewhere between 1865-1877 and i think she is buried in Cambusnethan Cemetery??? unsure where this is?? Ireland or Scotland??? Joseph died Jan 1865, from what I have found I think there 2 sons had poor Relief Application in 1877.. If anyone can help..would greatly appricate it.. I thank you for all the previous help that this site gave me on John Begley and Isabella Mcarthur..You were all great..
I cannot find Joseph or Mary in any census?? or anything, they like to stay hidden, I have found a different spelling for Joseph "St.Haughie" there sons were Joseph and Patrick.. Thanks Karen

Hi Karen,
I'm not crash hot on pronunciations, but could Haughy also be Howie? I thought I may have had an Howie connection and I'm sure I can remember finding some under this spelling.

Dear Karen, I wonder if we have the same family here. One of my "brick walls" concerns a Currie family and Sarah Currie's maiden surname was Begley. She moved to Cambusnethan after she was widowed around 1851. She was in Cambusnethan on 1861 census. I wonder if she moved there to be nearer family. This is what I know about her:
born about 1817 Ireland
married (can't find an entry as probably RC) Hamilton Currie
1st child Mary Ann (marrion) born around 1833 possibly Ayr or Ayrshire
2nd child James born Ayr or Ayrshire around 1834
3rd child Hamilton born Ayr 1835
4th child Felix born 1839 Greenock
5th child Agnes born 1840 Greenock
6th child Sarah Mary born 1848 Glasgow
I found this family on 1841in Greenock and 2 of the children are baptised there (shown as lawful) so they were married. By 1851 Sarah is shown as Head of Household in Glasgow. She is shown in the Glasgow Tade directories until 1858.In 1861 census she is in Cambusnethan with her family and is shown as a furniture dealer. I cannot find her in 1871 but she turns up in 1881 English census as living with her son James and family in London. In 1891 she is still living in London now with daughter Sarah. I have a reference for her death cert (in England)but haven't sent for it yet as it probably will not give me any more info.
I wonder if she is connected to your Begleys? She gave her place of birth in some of the later census in London as Stranraer, Scotland but I'm pretty sure she was Irish.. I am descended from Felix who stayed in Glasgow. James in London became a sculptor and most of the family were furniture dealers, French Polishers or gilders with also some shopkeepers. My mother, who is 78 but has a great memory says some of them went to America to work as carpenters on the silent movie sets. I will try "Scotlands People" and see if I can find any more Begleys in Cambusnethan. Can you come up with any connections here? By the way, Cambusnethan is a small place about 25 minutes away from where I live. I am sure I have seen a small booklet about the village. Yours hopefully.
