Hi McArthur
...and a warm welcome to Talking Scot :D
I'm sure you'll find lots of useful information here. I don'thave any connection, just wondered, are there any of the McArthur family you were having problems finding out about? About what dates were your William, Robert, Andrew & John born?

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi McArthur
There don't appear to be any deaths in the OPRs for St Ninians.
Have you checked the MIs?
They have been published by the Scottish Genealogy Society:
http://www.scotsgenealogy.com/

Stirlingshire MI - Stirling East. Pre-1855. A4, 260pp.
Price: £13.00
Airth, Bothkennar, Cambuskenneth, Falkirk, Larbert, Logie, Muiravonside, Plean, Polmont, St. Ninians, Slammanan and Stirling.
http://www.scotsgenealogy.com/acatalog/ ... re_MI.html

Not sure where you are based but I expect there may be a library in the Stirling area who might have this,
http://www.familia.org.uk/services/scot ... rling.html
and the Scottish Genealogy Society in Edinburgh certainly do have it!
You might also find some help at Central Scotland Family History Society:
http://www.csfhs.org.uk

It would be worth checking just to see which, if any, McArthurs are mentioned in the MIs.

Have you checked the 1841 census? Or is his non-appearance for that census why you think he died before then?

Best wishes
Lesley

Yes,he is not on the 1841 census and I have been to the Stirling archives to check the books and his death is not listed  I dont know any other way I can find anything else out.On his kids certs it says he was a spirit merchant.I also looked this up and there was only a James Mcarthur.

Hi McArthur1,

Does the name Jean McLay mean anything to you? There is a listing in the MI's for East Stirlingshire for 1841, Wm McArthur & Jean McLay buried in St Ninians Old Churchyard, No. 579.

Regards,
Anne H
