Variation of the name Kenneth.....

Post by fmackay » Sat May 13, 2006 7:51 pm

Wondered if anyone knew if the name Rennie could be a variation of the name Kenneth?
I think I'm clutching at straws but here's hoping!
Trying to find the following family after 1851 with no luck -
Rennie Levack/Levach born c1805 Halkirk Caithness
Elizabeth (his wife) born c1801 Wick
Christina daughter born c1831 Wick
Rennie son born c1834 Wick.
They seem to have disappeared.
thankyou
Fiona

Could it be a transcription error of Kennie (Kenny)?
Anderson, McAlpine, Blue - Argyll
Dunn Fife /ML
Coutts, McGregor - Perth/Govan
Glen, Crow, Imrie - Angus
Scott & Pick ML
Mason - Co Down

Yes that's possible - I got the info from Freecen, not the original images on SP so perhaps I should check them out. Having said that I can't find any trace after that and I've tried various combinations of letters including just the surname.
Thanks for your reply

What about the given name being Reynold(s)? I know of two people with this as a first name, both of whom are called Ren.

Hello Fiona,

I don't think it is a transcription error as father and son are Rennie in both the 1841 and 1851 cesuses just as Rennie senior was Christened in 1804.

RENNIE LEVACH
Male

Birth:
Christening: 20 FEB 1804 Halkirk, Caithness, Scotland

Parents:
Father: JOHN LEVACH
Mother: ANN KEITH

Hi Fiona

I had problems with transcription errors and we resorted to the OPR films.
The Halkirk and Wick films have surprisingly good, clear, writing over several years around that time.
Seeing film of the originals cleared up several points for us :D :D

Even better was it gave us an excuse to holiday in Caithness.(I know we didn't have to go there to see the films..... but !!)

Working on: Oman, Brock, Miller/Millar, in Caithness.
Roan/Rowan, Hastings, Sharp, Lapraik in Ayr & Kirkcudbrightshire.

Watson, Morton, Anderson, Tawse, in Kilrenny

Hi Fiona:

I was very interested to come across your post regarding Rennie Levack and Elizabeth Lyall as they were my great-great-great grandparents. Their son, John Keith Levack, was my great-great grandfather.

I have accumulated some information regarding John Keith Levack and would be happy to share it with you.

Regards,
Leslie.

Hi Leslie
Thanks for your reply.
I had to look back at my query as it has been a while since I posted.
My 2x great grandmother was Esther Levack but her family were originally from Watten. Esther married Alexander Henderson and settled at Spittal Halkirk.
I wasn't able to find a link with Rennie Levack but it's possible! :D
