Hi,
Maybe I've not looked in the right place, but how can I get hold of a marriage certificate after 1930 when I don't know the exact date?
I've been researching my own roots in England for the past few years, and put together a Family History with stories, but the family want their dad's side too, so I've recently discovered and used ScotlandsPeople.
I love the amount of info on the Scottish certificates and have been able to find a large number of his ancestors, but am stuck on who or where to go to do a search for a marriage around 1939/40.
Thanks
Paula
PS If I can help anyone with Lancashire searches let me know.

Hi Paula,
Welcome to TalkingScot.
The staff of New Register House can do some searching on your behalf. I think the amount that they can help you is very dependent on how much information you can give them to narrow down the search. It can also make a difference if you are searching for a Xavier O'Shaunessy rather than a John Smith. At least for a marriage, the search can be done based on the two names and should narrow down very quickly, compared with a similar search for a birth or a death.
Have a read at http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/famrec/h ... flet2.html where they describe how they can help you and the costs involved.
Otherwise you will need to have someone do some research on your behalf at New Register House, Edinburgh, or Park Circus, Glasgow. Or if practical, you can venture north and visit either of these places.
All the best,
AndrewP
