Edinburgh.....

Post by Tracey » Thu May 25, 2006 12:32 pm

I am trying to browse births c 1901-1905 in Edinburgh. Problem is the person who would be the mother is in Edinburgh on 1901 census and it says burgh Logie, Yorgie ( cant make it out) Parish St Michael - anyway a search on SP doesnt give the option of Edinburgh or any of the two others mentioned and not knowing Edinburgh at all need some help as to where to look

Thanks
Scotland - Donaldson / Moggach / Shaw / Geddes / Sim / Gray / Mackie / Richards / Joel / Coull / Mckimmie / Panton / McGregor
Ireland and Scotland - Casey / McDade / Phillips / McCandle / Dinely / Comaskey + various spellings

Hi Tracey,

St Michael's Parish Church is at the start of Slateford Road, just up the hill from Gorgie, so that should be fine. As for the registration district - probably St George - that covered most of what became Dalry & Gorgie in 1920, and part of Haymarket in 1930.

All the best,

AndrewP

Thanks Andrew

What i dont understand (maybe nievely) is why there arnt the same place options when searching a birth or marriage 1901-5 Edinburgh ? Gorgie is a search option for a marriage but not for a birth :? Same time frame in the same place different options :?:

Hi Tracey,

My understanding of the Edinburgh registration districts is given on the following TalkingScot webpage.

http://www.talkingscot.com/rds/city-rds-edin.htm

In theory, these should be available as search criteria on ScotlandsPeople for births, marriages, deaths and censues.

All the best,

AndrewP
