Can anyone help locate any information on the following places and also help to make out the street name in the 1861 census.

Whitson 1861 - entry 4

I am unable to make out this street name. Originally I thought it looked like Grant Street

I think I can make out the place name as being Summerfield Mains?

Hi
Whitson 1861 - entry 4
I am unable to make out this street name. Originally I thought it looked like Grant Street
- I think it says Court Street. Both census took place in Haddington. (East Lothian) Summerfield Mains seems to be it.

Old maps web site ( www.old-maps.co.uk )is currently down:
Scheduled Maintenance
We apologise that you are unable to access either Landmark, Promap, Goview, Sitecheck, Homecheck, Oldmaps or PointX websites at present. We are currently carrying out scheduled maintenance.
- so thats one to check for Haddington once it is back up again.

Best wishes
Lesley

Thanks. Is there anywhere I can get any old maps of this area to find these places? Or is there any info on the net about the places itself?

See above re. maps site - - I added it later, you didn't miss it!!
Summerfield Mains sounds like it will be a farm, so may be visible on the map.

Court street can be seen here

Court street is illustrated on this page:

and a Google for Haddington will bring up lots of interesting sites. It is an interesting town - well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Yeh I have been through there a couple of times. I still have relatives living out there. I can't remember going through the actual town centre though.

For Lilias' place of death, I'd say its Pilmour Cottage, St Andrews
Pilmour Cottage which is now Pilmour House, headquarters of St Andrews Links Trust,
see pic - here

Thank you again. I still cant understand why she is away up in St Andrews when she had been living in the Edinburgh area (Inveresk roughly) previously.

first glance looked like Primrose cottage or Pimous.
but a look at the informant
a neighbour - same address looks more likePILMOURCottage.

Doing a 'google' on that brings up some interesting information [ if you like golf]
