1851 census (Canada East & West, New Brunswick, Nova Sco

Hi folks,
The 1851 Canadian Census is now online.
Please note the area covered in this census isn't what we term Canada today.

It's not name searchable.
So unless you've an awfy lot of spare time, you need to have a fair idea of where a person might be.
It's very useful for any of us with rellies in those areas; and free too.

Hi Ted,
Me too! My GGG-GF Hugh Kerr "disappeared" after the 1841 census.
A headstone at the High Kirk in Stevenston says he died aged 78 in 1858.
So where was heck was he in 1851? It was eventually found he'd died in Ingersoll, Oxford, Ontario 1858 - not Scotland.
His wife Helen Reside died in 1840, and he left Scotland about 1845, firstly to York County where his married daur Helen was living.
A son Daniel followed in about 1851 after his father Hugh and daur Helen moved to Ingersoll.
So i'm fortunate in at least i know where the family should be in 1851....

The folks at automated genealogy are considering transcribing this census so will be name searchable on their site when completed.

I suppose you know this means I've got no excuse to put off tracking down all the Rathlin mob that moved to New Brunswick.
