Post by Ann E » Wed May 31, 2006 3:39 am

:(
Good Morning all
Please can any one help I am looking for the Bap of William KAY born about 1841/42 son of Thomas Kay shoemaker of Cannongate Edinburgh he is not in the IGI,
I subscribed to Scotland People, But I cant log in, !I have had three passwords ,& done what they told me to do, Delete Cookies ECT ,& I still cant log in!
William was my g -gt uncle ,I am helping his gg grand daughter how used to research the family, but is not well enough to research any more, she told me in the last e mail that it is her greatest wish to find Williams bap,she thinks that “As William full name was William Darrel Wilson KAY I think his mother's name will be Kate, Katherine or Mabel (Poss. WILSON) following Scottish custom.”
It is her birthday next week& I would love to be able to tell her that we have found him.
Please can any one help

Hello Ann E

I'm sorry you're having problems with logging on to Scotland's People. There is no reason why this should be happening to you especially if you've communicated with them directly. Sometimes it's not a complicated reason but a very easily performed mistake. I've done it myself  .......I wonder if you're certain you are typing in your password and user name just as you did when you registered them? If you used a capital letter then it must be retyped using the capital letter.

Ok...well on to the bigger reason why you've posted here :)

Could you please confirm where you obtained the information that William's father was Thomas and a shoemaker and they lived in Canongate? I'm assuming this may have been from a marriage certificate of William's?? If this is true who did William marry and when?

Sorry so many questions but a little more info will be a big help!

Best wishes
Jean

Hi all :D
I am so pleased with all the info I have been sent , but I still have the problem of Williams Bap, I would like any comments on this ,
Were there late bap for William & his siblings , Were they done as a Job lot, Were they non conformist?, Did you have to been baptized before you could marry?.
Has any one info for the 1861 census for Thomas & Catherine to see if there were any more children ,
(As I have found before) ,after the last child was born were they all baptized together, so it would give a date!

Hi Anne
I'll try to answer a couple of your questions:
Were there late bap for William & his siblings , Were they done as a Job lot, Were they non conformist?
I've certainly seen instances where the children from a family were all noted as baptised at the same time. If they were not Church of Scotland they would not turn up in the OPRs. It is also possible, I suppose, that if they were noted as christened that the register may have subsequently been damaged or lost etc. There is also the chance that the children may not have been christened.
Did you have to been baptized before you could marry?.
As far a as I'm aware, no.
Has any one info for the 1861 census for Thomas & Catherine to see if there were any more children , after the last child was born were they all baptized together, so it would give a date!
Any children born after statutory registration in 1855, should have been registered, and if so, would turn up on a search on Scotlands People.

Sorry not to come up with anything more positive.
Best wishes
Lesley
