richard sneddon kay.....

Post by laineywoo » Wed Jun 07, 2006 11:16 am

Hi, Can anyone tell me where to look?? I cannot find my gr grandfathers death cert anywhere.........am I going nuts?? Richard Sneddon Kay was born 19/10/1880 in Baillieston, I have his birth cert. First he married Maggie Johnston (again I have the cert) she died and he then married Jessie Wotherspoon Walker and again I have this cert. He married Jessie in 1915 and they went onto have 3 children that I know of (have a feeling I may be missing one, but thats by the by just now!) Any way, their youngest child was born 1919, and he was still alive at that time as he signed the birth cert. By the time it comes to 1932, his dau Agnes is getting married and it has Richard as deceased on her cert, and all the following children's marriage certs too. I was at register house, thinking I was missing something for Richard as I couldnt get a cert for his death from SP, but I couldnt find it there either. Not only that, but I also had a friend check for me whilst there, and she couldnt find it either. Jessie went onto remarry and I got the cert for that, dated 29/09/1945. So, even if there had been mistakes on all the marriage certs of his children, which I doubt!, then he would have to have died prior to 1945. Jessie is marked as a widow, so its not a case of divorce either. Can anyone suggest what to do? Is it possible his death just wasnt registered??? I'm beginning to think he was bumped off and buried in the back garden - nothing would surprise me with my family anymore

Is it possible he died outside Scotland? Any connections to other Countries?
Have you tried under varying names e.g Dick-any idea what name he was known as?For example my Father was John but always called Ian even on school documents. His headstone has Ian (John).
I assume he is registered as John but the children always talk off "Grandpa Ian"-they never met him as he died long before any of them came along.
Death is such a shocking experience & I looked in disbelief at the wrongly spelled christian name of my Granny at NRH thinking"who the heck did that" & was astounded to see that 1.It was me who registered the death-I have no recollection of doing so!
2 I had misspelled her name.
So if you have a specific time scale which you seem to have between marriages & a place try searching on surname with first name varying.
Researching:SCOTT,Taylor,Young,VEITCH LINLEY,MIDLOTHIAN
WADDELL,ROSS,TORRANCE,GOVAN/DALMUIR/Clackmanannshire
CARR/LEITCH-Scotland,Ireland(County Donegal)
LINLEY/VEITCH-SASK.Canada
ALSO BROWN,MCKIMMIE,MCDOWALL,FRASER.
Greer/Grier,Jenkins/Jankins

Hi Joette
Thanks for that. I did try all Richards thinking his middle name may have been omitted. I also tried Dick, as this is how his son was known. Looked at EVERY richard etc no matter the areas were different....at reg house, it doesnt do a search on just one area, it does them all, but nothing. I have never thought about him moving away, but I dont really think so. At this time (I should have mentioned earlier) the family stayed in Rumford which is Parish of Muiravonside. As his children were all married from the same address I would have thought this was where he continued to live.
Just totally stumped on this one!
I do know what you mean about death certs though. I had a look at my mother in laws when I was at reg house, and my husband had signed it. He was only 17 at that time, and was gobsmacked when I told him........couldnt remember having ever seen it.
Thanks for trying though.........if you do think of anything else! all suggestions will be put to the test lol

Hi Lainey,
Just very brief details - but maybe contact GROS / SP saying the mis-indexing has cost you a few credits!
Richard is indexed as RICHARFD (someone's stuck an "F" in!)
--
DC 1921. 685-5. 1069. George Sq, Edinburgh.
Richard KAY (41) d. 6 Nov 1921 at the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh.
Informant was James HARRIS, bro-in-law. [my error - surname is MORRIS]
--
Jack
ps, i also noticed 3 Catherines indexed as Ctherine - without the "a"

Hi Lainey
Send a contact form! :D
If you have spent loads of credits on a search and it turns out it has been mis-indexed, as this one is, they are usually kind enough to refund the credits you have "wasted" through no fault of your own. Contact them and draw their attention to the "typo". Another family researcher may have cause to thank you for it!

Go for it!

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Lainey
You have to be logged into Talking Scot, and then.....

1. Scroll up the page & click on the Gallery link at the top of this page

In the Gallery page:
2. Click on the Upload File link at the top of the page.

Under the File Uploads section:
3. Click the Browse button.
This will open a dialog box which will let you look for the file that you wanted to upload to TS. It makes life easier for you if you have saved this file to somewhere obvious like “Desktop” or “My Documents” or wherever you usually store your family history files.

4. When you have located the file, double click on it.
In the File Uploads box you should now see the “path” to the file e.g.
C:\Documents and Settings\Lesley\Desktop\8ElginVillas_aka_1401.jpg
(This just means the TS website now knows where to collect your file from!)

5. Click on the Continue button at the bottom of this page.
Your file will now be uploaded and you should see a message:
"1 uploads were successful.
Please click 'Continue' to add the files to albums."

6. Click the Continue button

7. You should now see a page where you can add more details about the image if needed - if not needed, just click Continue

8. You should now see a page with the message:
The previous file was placed successfully.
You have successfully placed all the files.

9. Click the Continue button.
You will be taken back to the main Gallery page (where you started, but you will probably have forgotten what it looked like by now! )

You then have to wait for approval from TSAG who will post your image in the gallery, and some kind soul will (I hope) then paste the link to your image in the body of your post. If no link appears in your post within 24hrs, but you know the image upload was successful just post a message and someone will help!

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Lainey
I think the surname does look like it could be James Morris, brother-in-law

Best wishes
