Been ages since I've delved into the ol' achives - but I'm feeling better now and I'm back at work so have decided to roll up my sleeves and start rummaging through my husbands family history too.
Unfortunately that brick wall has reared it's ugly head again and I'm not sure what to try next, can anyone offer me some pointers.
Peters dads parents were:-
James and Jeanie Burns (MS. Candlin) Hyslop - married 28th Dec 1917 at 2 Union Street, Clydebank.
I'm stuck with
James parents, who were - Thomas Hyslop, coalminer (deceased) and Sarah (MS Bonar, also deceased).
I can't find any death certs, marriage info, census info nothing, not even James's birth cert!!!
It's lovely to be back amongst you all by the way - hope you have all been successful in you own searches

There's a marriage entry for a Thomas Hislop & Sarah Bonar in 1884 in Lanarkshire and a death for a Sarah Hyslop, other name Bonnar, between 1884 and 1917, again somewhere in Lanarkshire. I don't know the exact places as I didn't view the search results.
If you find and download these certificates, that should help you a bit - if they're the right ones. Given the spelling variations you might be better using wildcards e.g. H?slop for Hislop, Hyslop and Bon*r to cover various spellings of Bonar.
Hope this helps
Tom

Sorry messed up the spelling on the marriage it was Thomas HISLOP and Sarah BONNER
Death entry - actually narrowed it down and it's 1913
Surname HYSLOP, Forename Sarah, Other name BONNAR.
As I said, if you use the Wilcard searches H?slop and Bon*r, it avoids all these problems!
Tom
PS See you found it while I was typing this!

Found the death cert too, that's her right enough.
Says she's already a widow so I'll look for Thomas' death cert now too.
Thank you very much.

I have Bonnar, Bonar in my line. In fact my grand mother was Sarah Logan Bonnar b. 1881. Can you tell me the name of your Sarah's parents?
