Hi Yvonne
..and a warm welcome to Talking Scot :D

Where were William and Anna married?
Have you had a look for the death of William Cameron on the Scotland's People site? If he lived until after 1855 then the death entry should give his parents names.

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Lesley, thanks for the speedy response.

I have the notification that William and Anna were married in Paisley Abbey, Renfrew in Aug 1833. I have found the death cert for Anna but cannot find William`s. I know he was deceased before 1871 as he was listed as so on his daughter`s wedding cert. I have looked at so many on Scotland`s people but cannot find his death cert?????? Even tried the cencus???? Will keep on tho!

Yvonne

I had a look on SP for them in 1851 but no luck.

However in 1861 there are the following in Hutchestown Lanark. Don't know if they are all in the same household or not as I have no credits left.

William Cameron aged 57
Anna Cameron aged 62
Clara Cameron aged 21.

Worth a look I would think.

From the IGI

Clara Scott Cameron to Malcolm McKillop 4th June 1869 in Govan Lanark. Batch No M116461

And then this is probably her in 1881:-

Hi Jack, Great information, thanks so much. Have you any advice on how to trace William`s death or getting more info on his marriage?

Yvonne :)

Hi Yvonne
About William's marriage:
The OPRs don't usually give a great deal of info to work with when it comes to banns. Usually it will be something like this:
OPR Parish of Cardross, County of Dumbarton
June 2nd 1811, James Davie and Susannah Guy both in this Parish gave in their names for proclamation in order to Banns and received Extracts.
Sometimes a little more info is given - an occupation for the groom, perhaps the name of a farm where one of them lived, and even very occaisionally a father's name is given for the bride. You are highly unlikley to find the parents of William mentioned at all (never seen this, but I live in hope! ). However, having said that, it is always well worth looking at a copy of the original entry on microfilm, even if it is brief. You can do this in Edinburgh or at your local LDS centre where you can order the relevant film.

About finding his death: Looking at the census info it looks like your couple both still seem to be alive in 1851, so looks like William died between 51-61 which may put a spanner in the works! If he died before 1855 there will not be a death entry, but you may be able to follow up MIs (monumental inscriptions) or burial info - neither of these options are likley to give you parents names. If he died after 1855, there should be a death entry for him. Have you had a look on the Scotlands People site to see if there are any likely candidates who died between 1855-61?

If he died between 1851-55 another option is to look at the names of his children - the first born son and the second daughter might give you clues as to the names of his parents, if he followed the Scots naming pattern, then go looking for a William born Renfrewshire about the correct time (based on age on census) and see what turns up!

Best wishes
Lesley
