The Trouble with .....

Post by Miss Poohs » Tue Jun 13, 2006 10:57 pm

Hyslops, is they seem to disappear :?

I've got Thomas Hislop who was married to Annie (MS I think is Arkle).

They had a son, also Thomas, who married Sarah Bonner (Bonnar) 15th Feb 1884 - in Blantyre, Lanark.

At the time of this marriage both Thomas and Annie were deceased. I've tried every way I can think of to try and get a handle on the elusive H(i,y)slops but I'm having no luck at all.

What am I missing?

I've tried all the spellings and question marks, but can find no death, birth, marriage of census info.

I have a Mary Hislop from Co. Down Ireland. Do you think that your Hislops may have originated in Ireland?

It's possible, I can't find anything about them at all - can't even make out Annie maiden name

I'll try and post it in the gallery - for some opinions.

Hi again,

In my searches I have seen Hislop spelled a number of different ways, Hislop, Hyslop, Hislope, Hyslope, and even Heslip, Haslip, Haslitt and even Hayslip! It is no wonder you might be having trouble locating him, particularly if he was Irish, since his accent may have made it difficult to be clearly understood. So if seaching, a broad range of spellings would need to be considered.

My Mary Hyslop was married to John Carson and they settled in Irvine Ayr from about 1873.

Not sure if this'll work, but her goes.

image removed - see gallery link a few messages below - AndrewP

I'm having trouble trying to decipher the maiden name of Thomas Hislops mum (entry 22).

His dad is Thomas Hislop - fisherman (deceased)
His mum is Annie Hislop - but I'm just not sure of her maiden name at all. Think she was deceased at the time of the marriage too.

I do hope I've done this correctly - if I haven't, please feel free to correct it, or tell me how sort it myself.

Hope some one can help.

Hi Janice

Looks like Arkle to me.

Don't know how you managed to post the cert here, it should have gone to the gallery.

Someone will sort it out if needs be.

Jean

Hi Miss Poohs,

Do you have the original TIF format image for this certificate from ScotlandsPeople? If so, can you upload that to the TalkingScot Gallery, using Annette (Nelmit)'s instructions as below.
nelmit wrote:Try this:

You have to be logged in and then.....
Click on Gallery (above)
Click on upload file
Click browse
This takes you to your computer where you should find the image you want to upload.
Double click on the file.
Click on continue - Your file is now uploaded.
I think you then have to wait for approval from TSAG who will post it in the gallery.
The JPG format as used above loses a lot of the quality that the original TIF should retain.

All the best,

AndrewP

It's from ScotlandsPeople right enough - and it's on my viewed images file.

Edited to add - I think I've managed it - fingers crossed.
