Hi Jean.
Many thanks for the starting point.
I have been able to locate a death for Isabella,(1885) but am having a problem with Elizabeth.
I cannot find her in the 1881 census.,in the 1871 census it show her as aged 6,therefore she should be 16 in the 1881 ??unless she was not at home when it was taken;then where was she ??/
I can find no birth for her on the LDS site
Regards baldy (au)

Hi Baldy
Apologies for giving you information overload!!! I'm sure I confused the situation with so much coming at you at once.
The first census listing I posted is your family in 1881 not in 1871. Therefore Elizabeth was 6 in 1881.
Her birth would not appear on the LDS site as their birth extracts stop at 1874 I think?...therefore she just missed the cutoff date for that. Her birth is most likely to be found on Scotlands People website though but to be honest I didn't have a look for it.
Let me know how you're doing with the other clues I gave you. I wanted you to have the thrill of finding them for yourself!
....But if you'd prefer to get more pointers I can do that too.
Best wishes
Jean

Hi Ted
Sure I'll try to help...all you have to do is ask!
As for the 1874 date I gave you above....I was wrong and have been kindly informed (off stage by a resident expert
) that the records do indeed go all the way to the end of 1875. That means the birth of Elizabeth should be on the IGI...but like you....I haven't found it yet! I'll see what might be found on SP and let you know. I'll also double check the parents of William and see if we agree. Did you get the info from his Death Cert?
Best wishes

Hold the bus Ted!!! Are you talking about the parents names of William THOMSON the father of Robert, Jessie etc??? If so then what you've found is not what I've found.
Where did you find yours????
Best wishes
Jean
ps....Elizabeth's birth is right where it's spose to be on SP! Dunno why the IGI doesn't show it....
1875 THOMSON ELIZABETH JANE F TERREGLES /KIRKCUDBRIGH

Re:-Thomson Family
Hi Jean.
Ok,now its my turn to apologise. It appears that I have been searching Thomson with a "p" , meaning that ThomPson is the incorrect person
THOMSON is correct, then again it may depend on various spellings ??????
I will have to go back to the drawing board (again)

The spelling can be found either way.....so be very careful about it. The only way to be certain you have the right person is to cross check parents names or occupation or spouses name or some other point to prove the match. I found the parents names of your William on his Death certificate in 1906. On this you'll be able to confirm who he was married to....and his occupation....and a recognizable informant...his son!
Best wishes

Looks like I misled you. I was always of the belief that the IGI records extracted from the Scottish civil records were 1855-1875 inclusive (21 years), but on checking a number of parishes for any name, 1876 ± 2 years, all the results for births came up with 1874 records only.JustJean wrote:As for the 1874 date I gave you above....I was wrong and have been kindly informed (off stage by a resident expert) that the records do indeed go all the way to the end of 1875.
I would have bet good money that 1875 was included.
On re-checking, the strange result for extracted records indexed from the Scottish civil registers is that births on the IGI are 1855-1874, but marriages are 1855-1875.
All the best,

Thanks for clarifying that Andrew......who can guess why they have included a different year range for Births as opposed to Marriages? (I honestly don't know so folks.....please don't flood the forum with guesses
