Janet Mactaggart.....
I have Janet Mactaggart(David Irvine) in the 1900 US census b.dec 29/1831,Kilmarnock,Ayr,widow,10 children,3 living.Also in 1881,widow(thats wrong,her husband emigrated in 1880,she joined him in 1882)with children.And in 1871in Parkhead,1861 in Kilbarchan,1851 in Old Monkland.I,ve seen her place of birth as both Kilmaurs and Kilmarnock.The nearest I,ve come to her birth date was c,dec.23/1831 Kilmichael,Ayr(from sks),to John Mactaggart-Jane Mccaa.Any info on this thread would be much appreciated. Was not sure from all that if you had a MC for Jane after 1855 that stated her parents names or perhaps a US death Certifcate that did??? If not then you're only guessing at a correct birth and parents. They may well be correct......especially if you know if she might have had any family still in Scotland after emigrating to the US??? Looks like her mother (if this is her mother) lived to a ripe old age.....and had a son as informant.

I'd work on fleshing out the rest of this family and see if anything looks familiar or makes a connection.

Hello Jean,I don,t have any certificates re Janet.I do note in the 1861 census a Janet Mactaggart age 65,visiting David Irvine(Janet Mactaggart,her daughter) and family in Kilbarchan.This info came from a relative who picked it up some years ago.Born Argyllshire appears,but I,m unable to determine if it refers to the mother.Thanks for your response and advice.Mugoo
