Commus .....

Post by Caroline » Thu Jun 22, 2006 12:49 pm

Just wondered if anydody had come upon the christian name 'Commus' before? I've found a relative in Leswalt with this name also spelt as Comus and Commy. I've tried a Google search , but can't find where it derives from. Is it Irish or Scottish ?

Hi Caroline
Found this:

Could it maybe Camus, perhaps?
Best wishes

Hi Lesley,

Since posting I've found my relative Commus in the 1841 census and he turns out he was born in Ireland, so I assume the name is of Irish origin.
On his daughter DC he's named as Charles though!
