I need help with my Shorts .....
I got some help recently on this site with regards to my GGGG Gran- Janet Short. Janet's fathers on her death and wedding certificate was James Short deceased Railway Labourer. I assume he died between 1846-53. I have never found anything else on him anywhere. Between the Death of James and her next marriage Janets Mother Margaret turned up in Slamanan and has her 4 kids staying with someone called Michael Short. Michael is noted as her husband but he is 20 years older. Margaret is then married 2 years later again to someone else. I have found a variety of Shorts in the 41 censuses but never a family unit. I guess I am looking for opinions would Michael most likely be the Father in Law? Or is there something I am missing?

It could be possible that James had an older brother called Michael and after James death Margaret was taken in and married Michael ? You do see quite often a widow or widower marrying a sibling of the desceased
