Hello TalkingScot
I was recently at a seminar at the Society of Australian Genealogists in Sydney, presented by David Webster. My interest in my Scottish ancestors has been rekindled!! I’m wondering if someone can help me please?
I have identified the Proclamation of Banns/Marriage on 12 June 1830 between Mathew Wright and Janet Philp in Dunfermline. The 1841 Census for the Parish of Dunfermline shows Mathew and Janet and four children – David, Helen, Elizabeth and James. James, who came to Australia and married here, is my great grandfather. I have not yet found a Census entry for the family for 1851 (it doesn’t appear to be Dunfermline), and I know that James left Scotland in 1864, as I have the copy of an inscription in a book he was given when he left home to come to Australia and it was dated 1864.
Using the ScotlandsPeople website I have tried to identify the parents of Mathew Wright. There appear to be three people with this name born between 1786 and 1809 – two in the P of Irvine and one in the P of Stirling. I paid for an Extract of the OPR for the banns/marriage, but it doesn’t show any detail of the parents of Mathew or Janet
I would also like to identify the parents of Janet Philp – again, there are two possibles for a birth both in 1809.
My question is – how do I proceed to identify the parents of the Mathew Wright and Janet Philp? I do look forward to hearing from anyone who can help me.
Sincerely
WRIGHT/PHILP - DUNFERMLINE.....

It's me again - can't believe that in my very first TalkingScot entry I made a typo - yes, it's PHILP without an 's'.
Still keen to hear from you!!!

Hi Judi,
Just wondered if you had searched for the deaths of Matthew Wright and Janet Philp on SP as that would give their parents? Or did they emigrate with their son - I wasn't sure from your post.
If they didn't then there is only one death on SP for a Janet Wright/Philip which might be worth trying.

Unfortunately, this Janet is the widow of David PHILIP, Miner, which means that either Mat[t]hew and Janet also emigrated, or died pre-1855......Caroline wrote:Hi Judi,
