Hello all! I am a postgraduate student at Strathclyde University studying for my MSc in Tourism. As part of my course, I am carrying out research on Ancestral Tourism for my dissertation. One of the main ideas I am looking at is how this type of tourism can influence the formation of self-identity, and I also want to look at how significant a tourism market this is in Scotland.
If anybody is going to be travelling to Scotland on holiday or for a short trip in the month of July, and will be carrying out genealogy research or looking into their family history as part of their trip, I would be very interested in hearing from you to talk to you about your experiences of this type of tourism and also your motivations for visiting Scotland.

Ancestral Tourism
Hello Laura,
I just read your message and wanted to let you know I am traveling to Scotland, but not until Aug. 10.
I was in Scotland once about 21 years ago, but was on a tour and could not get to the town my grandmother is from. This time I am going to go to Airdrie to poke around a bit. I have bits and pieces of information and am looking for more. I am waiting to hear back from The General Register House in Edinburgh and I am planning on going there also.
I must say, I have been working on my genealogy for years now, but on and off. I wish I had pursued it earlier so I would know if I do have any long, lost relatives in Scotland. It would have been so wonderful to actually meet them!
As far as touring for genealogical reasons, I would in a heart beat if I had all the time and resources to do it. I find it fascinating!
I hope this helps you and here is my email addresses if you would like to contact me. Also, if you have any tips that I might be able to use on my trip I would really appreicate you sending them to me.
Sincerely,
Susan Nolan
