Photograph Identification .....

Reading the thread about 'how I got started' and the difficulty in identifying (old) photos, I have one suggestion which can help. I had a copy of an old photo and though I had a fair idea who was in it, and the general area it was taken in, that was it really. In my case, it was most likely taken in Fraserburgh. I subscribe to its local newspaper, the Fraserburgh Herald, a weekly paper which runs a Memory Lane feature each week and ask readers to send in old photos. People's Friend has a similar feature. My submission of the old photo led to a response from a grandaughter of one person in the photo, which in turn has led to much more. Looking at other people's submissions has also been profitable and a recent Family Gathering held in Banff included folk identified through the photo. I'm sure other regional newspapers and some other magazines would have this scheme.
