illiigitimate macleod.....

Post by utrecht003 » Mon Jul 03, 2006 2:41 pm

My grandfather alexander macleod was born 25 May 1868 in the Parish of Muckairn Argyll to a lady called Kitty Macleod her Mother was Mary.
His marriage cert gives his mother as Catherine Mackenzie, MS Macleod.
and his death cert gives his mother as Catherine Macleod, subsequently Mackenzie. Both Marr. and Death certs give his Father as Malcolm Macleod
I wonder if Kirk Sessions Records would help and if so Where best (if possible) to find Info on his Father.

Hi utrecht003
I don't know about the parish of Parish of Muckairn, but if Kirk Session records exist they might be worth looking at, just in case there is a mention. It is probably "needle in haystack" stuff, but it might be worth also looking closely at the census data for the area in '61 & '71 to see if any likely looking Malcolm Macleods lived nearby. Do the marriage and death entry where Malcolm is mentioned give an occupation for him? If so, that may narrow the Malcolms down a bit.

Most of the fathers of this type(!) that I have come across can be hard to pin down - you might have to settle for a "it is highly probable it is this Malcolm" situation rather than ever knowing for sure, unless you find some positive evidence.

Best wishes
Lesley
