Scots from awa'
I've not had square sausage since 1977.Nor gammon and cress.Black pudding is like greasy cardboard, and the only music to be found other then Newfoundland was Irish.I've found a Mrs.here in Nova Scotia who is responsible for the Alexander Brothers coming last Sept. She carries a few CDs in her craft shop but other than that our only taste of home came from the ones we left behind.Oor Wullie and The Broons,Beezers and Beeno.Much better than Archie any day.Though my share of the old annuals and comics is getting very worn all 3 of my children have read and enjoyed them over and over. Here in New Scotland(Nova Scotia) there's always someone who will tell you they know all about Scotland as there great, great, great grandfather was a Scot.I've taught my children to be as proud of their Scottish heritage as they are of their Newfoundland,Albertan and Nova Scotia history. They can all sing the tunes with the best of them.
A wee note of topic:
when Brave Heart came out we were living 3 hours from Mum and Dad and got a copy for them to watch.Dad sat down and about 20 minutes into the film called out"Peggy come here" Mum went to see what he wanted. They must have watched the movie at least 3 times with the sound of doing their own commentary as they went. They had Honeymooned in the same places the film was shot.We learned a lot about our parents early lives before the 6 of us came on the scene. They did eventually watch the movie with the sound and enjoyed very much, but I think it was there own memories they enjoyed more.
