Hi There!!
Could anyone tell me if the following places still exist in Edinburgh:
The Manse, South Leith
My great-grandparents were married in the Manse, South Leith in 1906. Is this the South Leith Parish Church at the corner of Kirkgate and Constitution Street or was the Manse something completely different?
Dalmeny Street Church
Based on my research, the congregations of Dalmeny Street Church and Pilrig Free Church were imalgamated into one church which operated out of the Pilrig Free Church. Dalmeny Street Church was no longer used as a church. Does the Dalmeny Street Church (the building) still exist and if so, what is it currently used for?
Pilrig Model Buildings
I have several relatives whose address was ## Pilrig Model Buildings. I have done some research on these buildings and have discovered that they were historically significant for their time as they provided good affordable housing for the middle classes. I also have been able to learn that their name eventually changed to Shaw's Place (?Terrace). Do these buildings still stand and if so, where exactly are they located? Are they on Pilrig Street?
Thank you in advance for any information
Veronica

Hi Veronica,
The one that I do know still exists is South Leith Parish Church. The 1840s Statistical Accounts for Scotland describe the existing parish church to probably date from the year 1490 (pre-reformation). I don't know if the current manse has been in that use since at least the 1906 date that you ask about. You could probably make contact with someone at the church via their website.

Your question regarding the Dalmeny Street Church buiilding may be answered by contacting the (now further amalgamated) Pilrig St Pauls Church www.pilrigstpauls.org.uk . I think the building may now be St Andrews Ukrainian Church (Roman Catholic?) - I cannot find a website for them. A picture of the Dalmeny Street church can be found at http://www.oldleither.com/DalmentChurch.html .
Shaws Place and Terrace still appear on the current maps. These locations are the other side of the city from me, so I can't claim to know the back-streets there. However, if you look at the City of Edinburgh Council's Planning Department website, and do a search on these streets, then select to see the map showing the properties there, they appear to be of the same layout as on the early 20th century OS maps, so are probably the original buildings.
