Hi Everyone
I have uploaded two photos to the gallery - awaiting approval - both photos are of my Grandfather Robert Allan (bn Aberdeen 1885) - he was a career soldier in the Royal Horse Artillery and was part of the BEF in 1913.

The first photo is of him taken around 1901 -1902 when he was 16/17 - the second photo is taken a few years later - but before 1909. I know lots about the uniform and all of the badges in the later photo. I only came into possession of the earlier photo yesterday (eventually prised from the clutches of an old aunt who revels in making genealogy difficult) - there are a good few differences in the two uniforms. I know that the earlier one was taken in Kildare, Ireland and that the RHA often went on training manouvers there.
Can anyone make suggestions regarding the uniform in the earlier photo (is it RHA, etc) - any suggestions gratefully received (it is also posted on the GW Forum site for their experts to ponder - but I have often found that there can be equally as good advice to be found amoungst my pals here on TS).
Thanks lots
Ted

I suspect that it's the same regiment, - see the hat and the collar, including the small badges on the latter, - with the latter one being riding kit, - see the spurred boots, - and the former fatigue, non-riding uniform.
Any response from GW ?

Hi David & Catriona
I am pretty sure that it is the same regiment as well - the GW folks are much of the same opinion - but not too much detail available - I have sent both photos and relevant info to the RA Museum at Woolwich to see if I can get further info there.
Thanks lots for your interest & best regards
