WARD, Ballygriffin, Co. Kerry .....

Don't suppose anyone has come across any of my ancestors surname WARD, who came from Ballygriffin, Parish of Glanarought, Co. Kerry, sometime in the 1800's to Lichfield in England. They were blacksmiths to trade. they lived opposite O'Sullivans in Ballygriffin.

Well the problem with tracing ancestors in Ireland is the fact that few records exist, and I have been searching for my Irish ancestors for a number of years now and not getting very far. Its always worth posting a message, like you say maybe someone will come back one day with the answer! Thanks anyway for the interest.

by any chance do you have a daniel ward in your family maybeborn around 1898 possibly mayo?

Hi Jean,
Sorry I can't help with a Daniel Ward, because I don't know any details atall about my Grandfather James Alfred Wards family, he was born 1885 and I've still to find out where that was, but I do know that his forefather-s came from Co. Kerry, but that of course may not have been their place of origin in Ireland. I know there were Wards in Co. Mayo, as I've seen that during my searches, but other than that my Ward family is a complete mystery!!

Will take a note of your Wards, you never know there might at some time be a connection, although the way things are, its taking years to get information that is definite about my Ward family!!!

Patricks parents were
Patrick Ward marine stoker
Winifred Ward ms Boyle
it seams that Patrick and Mary Boyle[ my great aunt] were cousins. they came from DONEGAL

Hi there McNeill,
Strangely enough my eldest brother is called Patrick and none of us can remember why he was called that name. My Aunt Rene said she had a cousin Winifred, but could tell me no more, so maybe there is a connection here? Don't suppose you know if there is any connection to the Midlands area, Birmingham or Halesowen? The names that were in my fathers family, were Robert, Harry, Shirley, Ada, Emily, Irene and my father Alfred James.
Of course they could have been named after my Grandmothers Phillips side, which is another brick wall!! I know most Wards originate in Galway and Donegal and certainly there aren't many in Kerry, apart from some in the Dingle area. My original ancestor from Ireland was supposed to be a Blacksmith and my GRandfather at the time of his death in 1945 was an Iron
Castings Dresser, working at some local foundry.
