I have uploaded 2 census images for the family Beattie.
They are in Public Gallery:-Help with Deciphering Certificates
These are the 1851 * 1861 census
<there is a problem with both the census images - they are not displaying, but look to be small jpgs of icons on a desktop? Could you possibly upload them again, preferably in original tiff format? Thanks>
See here now for the images

It looks like Ted has a problem on his set-up whereby a piece of software "grabs" by default any incoming images, and converts tham to another format, maybe not even an image file format, in the process!
Baldy aka Ted, - and there's a link to your queries below.

I would welcome any help in relation to these.
I did put a message in the forum about them on the 12/7/06.
TIA

Hadn't realised that the above wouldn't appear in New Messages as I'd worked via an edit of the post ...........

Hi Baldy:
Although William (ploughman) and Janet Beattie are the head and wife of both households, I don't think that these are the same families.
1851 Kirkbean ............... 1861 Linwald
William 40 .................... William 47
Janet 40 ....................... Janet 47
Mary 14 ....................... Ebenezer 12
Robert 12 ..................... Thomas 10
Janet 10 ....................... William 5 (Grandson)
Jane 8 ......................... Janet 11 months (Granddaughter)
William 5
Catherine 3
Thomas 1 month
Robert Callamiter (?) Father-in-law 75
Although William and Janet could be the children of Mary, Robert or Janet, where did Ebenezer spring from?
Thomas' age would be rounded down to 9 in the 1861 census?
Would the quickest way to check if they are the same family, be to check if the grandfather of Ebenezer Beattie (b 1849-50 approx) was Robert Callamiter (?), or to find Ebenezer Beattie in the 1851 census?

I think the Father in law's surname is Callander and the 3 year old is Ebenezer ( he's in the male column). See the other post http://talkingscot.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 7&start=15.
