Hi Dj
What were the names of William Toy's parents?
Have you tried a parent search on IGI? Sometimes you can get pretty good results with their parent searches.
You enter the names of the parents, and a list of children come up. There might be more than one set of parents with the same name. Forgive me if you know all about this.
Regards
Sheila

Re: William Toy.....
Hi
My grandfather's name was William Toy & he lived in Longgrigend. He worked in a mine & played football for Airdrie. In the 1st World War he fought at Yypres & Passiondale where he gained a "Bravery in the Field" Military Medal. My grandmother's name was Helen Purse. I just knew my grandparents as "Maw & Dair" & they died when I was about 4-6. My father's name was Neil Peter Toye (the E was added by an aunt in the family who thought it looked better). His brothers were William & John & sisters Elizabeth Mary & Rose.
I have only just started to try to research family history so would be very glad of any info.
Best Regards
Rosamund (nee Toye)

Hi Rosumund
Just playing around with the search on SP, without spending any money (it is the end of the month!), I can see there is a marriage in 1911 of a William Toy and a Helen Purse in Lanarkshire.
This would suggest that your father's birth is likely to be after 1911, so after the cut off date (100 yr closure on birth records). To see the full birth entry you would need to either send away for a copy of the birth entry, visit the ScotlandsPeople Centre in Edinburgh, the Mitchell Library in Glasgow or visit your local (in Scotland) registrar.
Best wishes
Lesley
If any of these events happened in Scotland, you can view the official entry at http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk for a small fee and you should be able to add to your research from there. e.g. The birth entry of your father would give the first names and surnames of both his parents. The marriage of your grandparents would give their names and their parents' names. My grandfather's name was William Toy .... believe that my grandmother's maiden name was Purse but do not know what her first name was
My father's name was Neil Peter Toye

Hello Rosamund,
Here’s something, an eight year old posting by someone who sounds like they could be a relative. http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/t ... 1062897107
And a few more clues here, but are they reliable? http://www.mytrees.com/ancestry/Scotlan ... 31-10.html

Hi Lesley & Alan
Many thanks for suggestions as I am very new to searching family tree. I also now have no contact with any relatives of my fathers (the Scottish side of my family) as all of his siblings, and my father have died several years ago.
I do know my fathers birthday was 1st June 1920. He was the first in the family to live in England when he left home (Longgrigend) at the age of 14 to put himself through Aston college in Birmingham.
Best Regards
& thanks
Rosamund

Hi Alan & Lesley
I noticed that the part that you said "And a few more clues here, but are they reliable? http://www.mytrees.com/ancestry/Scotlan ... 31-10.html"
looks good but have my father's date of birth incorrect as he was born 1st June 1920 & it also says that one sibling is living (that would have been John) but he died years ago.
Many thanks though as there is definately some correct info & definately looks like a relative has posted.
Best Regards
& thanks to both of you

Re: William Toy.....
Hi Rosamund, I have just noticed that we're related to me albeit distantly. It seems that your grandfather William is my ggrandfather's younger brother his name was Dominic. Both of them were born in Longriggrend and both went down the mines. My ggrandfather served in WW1 as he was a reservist having been in the Army, he served with the 2nd Bn. Connaught Rangers. Im in contact with Williams' ggranddaughter. She filled me in with his army record which I've got. The medal you call 'bravery in the field' is actually called the Military Medal.
If you need any more information please pm me your email addy and I can fill you in with the extensive records I've got.
Hope to hear from you shortly.

Hi Dominic
Great to hear from you. I didn't knnow that my grandfather had a brother called Dominic. Well to be honest I didn't know much about his family at all as I have only just started to research them.

Best regards

Re: William Toy.....
Hi
I too have a Toye connection in my family Tree. My GG grand father Hugh Allison( b1833 in Ireland, but living in Rumford Stirlingshire, from 1854 ish) had a brother James, b approx. 1844. He moved to Monklands area, married and died all in the 1870's. His son James born 1867 in Rumford, married a Mary Toye at Longriggend in 1894, had 1 child as far as I am aware, Sarah, born 1897, died 1991in Queensland Australia. Her married name was Breslin, and her husband Andrew was from Harthill.
Any way, the original Mary Toye was the daughter of Neil Toye and Mary Crossan. She was just over 30 when James died in 1906, and remarried to a Patrick Murphy, at St Marys Longriggend. Could she and her parents be connected to your lot??
