I should have mentioned that I replaced the actual names with the ?'s to avoid embarrassing anyone

Tried googling human breeding at Glasgow Uni, but got nuttin'

It's nearly as confuddling as the selection of gravestones at Kilmartin in Argyll where many have people who died in Experiment. Even the very excellent little museum next to the church had no information on that one!

I expect there are a few who would qualify for "bred at the Uni" but an "experiment" at Kilmartin ? - that could explain a few of mine.

BTW don't know anything about Kilmartin as I have just found a connection to that area so good to hear there is a museum.

Re Experiment in Kilmartin

You're right Anne,
An extract from the interesting "Deserted Settlements of Kilmartin Parish" by Allan Begg.

Experiment.
"...From perusal of old maps, it seems to have been situated where Barsliosnoch Farm is now
and would have been the place where experiments in new methods of farming were carried out..."

Thank goodness "dying in Experiment" was just where you'd died, and not how.

Kilmartin Museum is quite interesting and is really there because of the ancient burial mounds/cairns and standing stones.

If you have ancestors there, then the churchyard is a mine of information and has been extremely well maintained.

The museum is great but unfortunately none of my Kilmartin ancestors seem to be buried in the graveyard there, or if they are there are no stones.

BTW the cafe at the museum is a very good pit stop. I can highly recommend the venison casserole.

Kilmartin has to be one of my favourite day trips from home. Mother loves it as so many of her folk are mid Argyll and being a non driver she greatly appreciates being taken on a road trip occasionally.

Bred at the Uni?
Had a wee smile when I saw that  As far as I know nothing like that went/goes on at UoG, but what they might mean is that young men went to university at a much earlier age than they do today. Not uncommon for boys of 12/13 to be at university. Back in those days they lived on the campus "cheek by jowl" with their professors. Today the students have pretty decent accommodation in halls.

UoG has only been on its current site since 1851, prior to that was originally at the Catherdral and then down at the High Street in the area know as College Lands.

This link shows a newish development proposed at the old site.
