Any one any ideas where I would find details of hangings in Scotland for the 1800's.

Hi AIMMS
This is not a specific list, but does give some details of some executions:
http://www.nls.uk/broadsides/index.html

And according to an excerpt from an article at:
http://muse.jhu.edu/cgi-bin/access.cgi? ... conley.pdf
At the National Archives of Scotland there are registries listing every person tried before the High Court of Judiciary, the highest criminal court in the Scottish legal system.
So...looks like the answer may lie at NAS.

Best wishes
Lesley

Have a look at
http://www.richard.clark32.btinternet.c ... tents.html

which lists all known UK executions from about 1800 onwards.

Hi Aimms

Try this book The Encyclopaedia of Scottish Executions 1750 to 1963 - Alex F. Young it gives details of the crimes committed and the people involved. I found it very useful. If you have problems please get back to me and I could let you have my copy.

Oh, Gosh Tracey. Just clicked on your link and there he was, Peter Manuel.

I was 10 when he went to the gallows. A school mate lived just outside the walls of Barlinnie and I wasn't allowed to go home with her after school that day like I did every Friday.

Just seeing his name gave me the shivvers.

That's right, and my Dad stopped us kids watching the news (we had the first TV in our street :D ), and the newspaper was well out of bounds!

If he'd heard us discussing it at school he'd probably have had a fit.

Hi Aimms
As mentioned above, I think you might need to contact NAS to find out.
http://www.nas.gov.uk/
If you have a name you could try the online catalogue there:
http://www.dswebhosting.info/NAS/dserve ... =Index.tcl
But not everything is included in the online catalogue, so if no joy there, try contacting them perhaps.

Best wishes
