Stone Mason.....

Post by Fraochale » Sun Jul 30, 2006 3:20 pm

I am looking for anyone who might know if there was a Stone Masons guild in Kirkcudbright or Wigtown in the late 1700's -1900's and if there are records that may have survived. My gggrandfather, his father and his eldest son were all stone masons and we have very little information on them, we are hoping as this was an apprentiship type profession that there was a guild of some sort who might have kept records.

Any help?

Thanks,
Jody

Hi Jody
The NAS site seems to be down just now - that would be my first port of call to check, but this seems to confirm there were certainly masons who were burghers in Kirkcudbright:

Hope this is of some help
Best wishes
