Sladesman.....

Just wondered if anyone happens to know what a sladesman did?

It's mentioned on a poor relief application as being the occupation of a relative who worked for Tennants at Wellpark, so it must be related to the brewery.

Any thoughts?

I had a quick look on 'old occupations' sites and couldn't see any reference at all. You may have to Google a bit on Brewing and related sites to get your answer.
