Andrew Williamson, Banksville, Allegheny.....

Post by Douglas Williamson » Wed Aug 09, 2006 10:03 am

Could anyone please help me with any information on Andrew Williamson, born 17th December 1820 in Dalgety Parish, Fife, Scotland. His address in 1882 was Banksville, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. His parents were Andrew Williamson and Isabella or Elizabeth Williamson (nee Muir). Another of my relatives who left Scotland in 1910 for Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania was a David Symons Williamson who was the great nephew of Andrew. I have already received valuable help about David from the Pennsylvania forum.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help
Douglas

Hello Douglas

My first suggestion is that you look for your family on the Scottish census returns found at Scotlands People (link at top of page). You state you are uncertain of his mum's first name so that should be established very first if possible. If she lived beyond the start of Statutory registration (1855) then locating her DC in Scotland would be a logical step to take. Even if you leave the first name blank and search on maiden name and married name there is only 1 page of results. One is an Isabella dying in 1871 and there are several Elizabeths. Perhaps the Isabella in Fife is yours?? Then if you do find a DC you might also locate an informant name that would be a clue to another family member (son or dau or son in law etc etc etc) Once you establish the ending point (so to speak) of the parents of Andrew then you'll have a better idea of where to search for them and Andrew in the earlier census years.

Hope this is helpful!

Best wishes
Jean
