How many Elizabeths?.....
I have been told by someone on the Lanarkshire Forum that my g g g grandmother was called Elizabeth Ann Fox, who married first Bernard Owens, and then John Devaney, a shoemaker. He said her parents were John and Eliza Fox (maiden name Docherty). Yet, I have the marriage certificate, dated 1892, of the marriage of an Eliza Owens and a John Devaney, in Anderston Glasgow, and her parents are named as William Fox and Ann Russell. Are these two different Elizas? Can anybody clear this up for me. Ive ran out of credits for www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk, so Im stumped.

Hi Matthew
Looks like you might need to look for a death of Eliza & top up your credits. Her death should tell you her husbands names (if the death informant knew of them) and the names of her parents.
The free search on Scotlands People reveals that there seems to be a death of an Eliza Devaney/Owens, Devaney/Fox, Owens/Fox (any age ) in 1915.
Running out of credits on SP is an inevitable & familiar scenario to just about everyone on this forum, I'd think!!
best wishes
Lesley

Eliza and Bernard were married probably just before 1864 (so no formal Catholic Records) in Tyrone, by 1869 they had moved to County Down.
Here are some of their children:
1. PETER OWENS - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 25 NOV 1869 , Down, Ireland
2. Eliza Owens - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 19 APR 1874 , Down, Ireland
3. PETER OWENS - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 26 JAN 1865 0558, Clonavaddy, Tyrone, Ireland
4. Joseph Owens - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 27 DEC 1879 Downpatrick, Down, Ireland
There may be extant Church records that would name her father.
The eldest daughter Mary Ann was born about 1863-ish and married Francis McDonald in 1885.
Mary Ann was widowed VERY early and remarried a Hughes
The family aren't in Scotland in 1881 so they moved between 1881 and March 1884 when Bernard died.
Eliza's death cert gives the names John and Eliza Docherty, I'd be more inclined to go with the second marriage that names William and Ann Russell, Eliza likely reported these details herself herself.
Don't know is this is significant but the Daughter Mary Ann, and Eliza were married by a Greenock based Catholic Priest, Michael Condon, IN GLASGOW. This is quite unusual unless there is some relationship.

Also looking for any information on Rathlin Island, County Antrim, Ireland.
