Donaldson-Marshall.....

Post by julie d » Sat Aug 19, 2006 2:00 pm

Hello all, as you know I did post a while back concerning these names in my ancestry. I am still no further on being unable to find a marriage between James and Janet Marshall, so have been following the other side of the family. The reason I am posting now is I am going to be coming to Scotland in September, and staying overnight on my way to visit the Isle of Skye and would have liked to try and find out more, but I don't know were to start, or where I should visit. I was going to go to Bathgate where the children were born, but I'm not sure if that would help. I have tried to find out where James(father) was born, I have found a few births for James Donaldson but I can't tell which is the right one, any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Julie.

Hi Jane it wasn't that James I am looking for, its Roberts (head) father James who married? Janet Marshall. There is no record of a marriage and without this to go on I cant find out who HIS parents were. Where abouts do your Donaldsons come from? Mine ended up in Sunderland where my dad was born.

Tracey

Lucky you, at least you've found one person tracing your lot

The only one I have recently found is related to my grannies man she never married, who she lived with after my grandfathers death :( So only a link to my an uncle produced between the two of them :(

Note I didnt say half uncle, my father would come back from the grave if I used that term

Hi Julie,

I am tracing my Donaldson ancestry too! They are mainly from Fife, but also have a few in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

I have a James Donaldson but he was born 1843 in Fife.

I would be glad to share any information with you if you think we may share ancestors.
