Filing

Post by Pandabean » Tue Aug 22, 2006 1:18 pm

I have recently got a filing system going (using my Individual Summary sheets etc) and I have come accross a new problem.

I have a folder (large ring binder), polypockets and dividers. (and of course the certs :P )

I cannot however get all 3 to work together. I have dividers but the number tabs are blocked out by the polypockets.

I get extra wide dividers but they stick out the folder and get ruined and are of poor quality.

Is it possible to get extra wide dividers that work in a folder and are of good quality (not just flimsy card that is easily ripped) and poly pockets not overlying the tabs?

Sorry just having a rant today about it.

Hi Pandabean
Not a solution, just another way of looking at it - have you tried those wee sticky post-it type notes which are supposed to be used to mark pages in a book? They usually come in luminous colours, are about 3x1cm in size and can be used to mark the beginning of a new section, and you can write on them.

A lot cheaper than good quality dividers too! :D

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Pandabean,

I have finally given up on ringbinders for much the same reason. I got myself some of those lever arch binders. Much better capacity and they are usually wider than ring binders, keeping the extra wide indexes protected.

If you have a BigW in your area, they had some good deals on these last time I was there.

I do have the large lever arch folders but the same problem happens. Maybe I need to get a larger folder.

I will be popping into Woolies later this week. BigW in Aberdeen shut last year. :(

Following my "intensive training course" on filing from Russell a few weeks ago, I too use ring binders for my filing. I've taken some coloured card and just extended the wee numbered tabs (as per Lesley) so that they stick out. Might be a bit "Heath Robinson" but it works.

Hi All

I use a good quality 4" Ring Binder. I use heavy plastic dividers for major Divisions, and carstock dividers for subdivisions. The are holding up well. I am in the process of converting my printed out certificates into plastic or poyester sleeves, which will protect the Certificates from tearing.

Hi

I use lever arch ring binder and standard dividers and put copies and dividers in polly pockets, cutting a space for the divider tab, works well.

Hmm I may need to find a wide folder, wide dividers and standard polypockets.

Why does something so simple have to be complicated?

Pandabean, I do as emamc does, I use a lever arch ring binder, and the normal sheet protectors (polly pockets) and just the normal dividers and when I need a divider, I just lay the sheet protector over top, cut away the edge of the plastic where the tab will poke through, and then slip the divider into the plastic pocket. When the plastic pocket is clipped into the binder, just the tab shows and it all works fine.

A bit fiddley to start with, but not to much bother
