Hi all
Looking for Alberta Terrace, Hillhead, mentioned on a death in 1912. A look at maps & etc suggests to me it has maybe changed name 'cos I'm not seeing it anywhere obvious. Does anyone how where it was? And what it is now called? (if indeed it has changed name...)
Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Lesley,
The only Alberta Terrace I could find on the Valuation Rolls seems to have been in Govan and was part of Saltoun Street. Here's the link...

McDonald or MacDonald (some couldn't make up their mind!), Bonner, Crichton, McKillop, Campbell, Cameron, Gitrig (+other spellings), Clark, Sloan, Stewart, McCutcheon, Ireland (the surname)

Thanks for that Mary. I had looked it up in a PO Directory and that is where it gave Alberta Terrace as being in Ruthven Street but I note these streets are at right angles to each other so I'm pretty sure this is the correct area. Maybe the terrace ran between Ruthven and Saltoun Street?
That Hillhead location would make sense for the person I'm trying to pin down [er.. if I've got the right guy... its one of those "here are a few clues, see if you can fill in the (whopping) blanks" kinda exercises!!]
Best wishes

Know what you mean, Lesley. Right now I've got more whopping blanks than clues
Did any of the tenants names on that valuation roll mean anything to you?

Hi Mary

Thanks for your help
Best wishes
Lesley
The valuation roll was a bit late for the period I'm interested in - 1891-1901 but I'm almost 100% sure I've got my man now! He's just gone & confirmed my suspicions by moving between 1891 -1893/4 from Alberta Terrace to Bank Street and that is the precise area I wanted to find him in!! This chap died in 1912, ....but its not actually him I'm after... I just know (family stories) he was a friend/neighbour of the folk I am trying to track down. Told ya it was one of these kinda searches!!Did any of the tenants names on that valuation roll mean anything to you?
Thanks for your help
Best wishes

Hi Jack
Thanks for that! Explains what was going on with the different streets being mentioned.
Just realised I have my chap moving backwards in time further up this post by error! Sequence of home addresses, (if anyone is interested!) for Frederick Oswald, born Germany, a hairdresser & perfumier, business at 462 Great Western Road, was:
