Hello Christine and Welcome!

It's possible this individual did not remain in Scotland but it's also possible there are records available that fall outside the closure periods. If this is so then there is no online access to them. Sorry but TalkingScot folks wouldn't be able to assist you with the search for them. You might consider hiring a professional or visiting New Register House in Edinburgh in person so that the current records could be consulted through those means.

Best wishes
Jean

I wonder if she took on the surname of any subsuquent husband of her Mother & then was known by that name.
With no Father being named on her Birth I would suspect that in fact her Mother'shusband was not her Father & she may have taken on the name of her Father after her birth.
Did your Granny stay in Scotland?Could Jane have been adopted? She may have gone to another member of the family & taken on their name.
Just a few things to consider anyway.

Hi Christine,

A possibility might be that she was put up for adoption after birth.

Regards,
Isobel

im afraid that by the time my aunt jane was born my granny had left her second husband and had not met my grandad
there is absolutly no trace of this baby anywhere
if she was adopted there is no record of it
none of my family even knew about this baby
its a complete mystery
thank you all for your help
love chrissey
